Colin enjoyed playing rugby at school but at the age of 21 an injury forced him to retire from the playing field and take up refereeing, first for school matches then for higher levels. He became involved in the Stew Mel Lions through his family, holding various positions leading to him holding the vice-presidency and then the presidency for four years ahead of becoming Chairman.
During this time Colin also supported the Stewart’s Melville FP Rugby Club and increasingly played a leading role in progressive changes at the Club, including the creation of an Academy section and working to create a ‘one club’ mentality in partnership with Heriots Rugby. In 2018 Colin was awarded the title of Honorary Vice President. He represented the Club on the National One Forum for nine years, culminating in his being the National Council 1 Representative.
Colin is very aware of the challenges facing the game at both elite and domestic levels at this time, not just recovery from the restrictions of the pandemic but also other ongoing challenges within the game. Colin will be working with President Ian Barr, the Board and the Council to focus on the regeneration of the game across grassroots, schools and clubs, men and women, amateur and professional. We wish Colin and the team the best of luck in the coming months and years.
