As our coffee mornings were popular during last lockdown, we thought we’d try to run these again for the coming weeks to give people stuck at home a relaxed, social outlet at least once each week. Our next meeting will take place at 10.30am on Friday 12 February and will run weekly thereafter. Sometimes we will have a speaker, other times we will just gather together and share stories of times past and present.
We are delighted to confirm that our special guest on Friday 12 February will be Garry Walker (SMC 1982), who is an internationally-renowned conductor. Among his current responsibilities he is currently Musical Director of Opera North and Artistic Director at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Garry has conducted many of the great orchestras including the Royal Philharmonic, the Halle, the City of Birmingham and the RSNO as well as orchestras across Europe and in the USA, Australia and New Zealand. Garry will be happy to answer questions about his career and will also talk about the challenges faced by the creative arts in lockdown and how they are changing his perception of his own future. This is an opportunity not to be missed by anyone who loves classical music and the arts in the widest sense so make a note of the time and join us on Friday.
