The Modern Languages Department is interested in setting up a Languages and Employability Partnership Programme, with a view to giving pupils a ‘real life context’ for how they might be able to use their language skills in their future career.

In the first instance, we are simply looking to find out where languages are used, and in what way and to discuss the importance of languages in different industries.

We are aiming to create a series of lessons for pupils to complete, including a variety of authentic tasks – similar in style to those that might be carried out by you in your working life. If modern foreign languages are used daily in your place of work or you work abroad, and you would be interested in collaborating with us, please contact us.

Here is what we would kindly ask you to do:

Please send us a short video about yourself (c. 3-5mins) answering in ENGLISH the below questions:

1.   1. How do you use the foreign language daily in your job and/or in your wider life? (Please give an example of a task that you normally complete in the foreign language.)

2.    2. Did you learn foreign languages at school? How have they helped you so far?

3.    3. Did knowing a foreign language improve your career opportunities?

4.    4. What are the challenges of working in a different language?

5.   5. Back in school did you expect to use languages in your working life?

Videos should be sent for the attention of Eleni to eltsirogi@esms.org.uk. You may find that video files are too large for email, in which case we recommend a website called Wetransfer (https://wetransfer.com/) which allows transfer of files up to 2GB free of charge and securely.
