On Saturday 1 June, the air around the west side of Edinburgh city centre will be filled with nostalgia as several school reunions are set to coincide, bringing together alumni from different years but with a common background.  The day will be marked by not one, but two main reunions during the day, an optional visit to the boarding houses for former boarders, followed by individual year group events in the evening.

Morning – Mary Erskine School and Stewart’s Melville College Tours and Lunch

The first events, scheduled from 10am, will see alumni from various years gathering at The Mary Erskine School and Stewart’s Melville College respectively, to tour the schools and then enjoy a delicious lunch.  Events at The Mary Erskine School are being organised by the MES FP Guild, events at Stewart’s Melville College and the evening reunions are being organised by the ESMS Development Office. It will be a great opportunity to reminisce about your shared experiences as old friends unite and new connections are forged.  Partners, guests and family are all welcome to join too.

SMC attendees will visit the dining hall for a ‘school lunch’, where they will enjoy a hearty lunch of lasagne or stovies. There will also be the option of syrup sponge pudding or apple crumble with custard, accompanied by a choice of wine, beer or soft drinks with lunch.

Afternoon – Boarding Houses

In addition to our Summer Social tours and lunch, we would like to offer former boarders and boarding staff to have a final ‘walk through’ of Dean Park House after lunch.  This will offer you a chance to see how boarding looks in today’s world and undoubtedly rekindle a whole host of memories.  As well as having a look around, you will get the chance to meet up with other former boarders and house staff, chat over coffee and cake and say a final fond farewell to what we are sure will be a lasting memory of your schooldays.

Tours will start at 2pm, with the doors closing to visitors at 4pm to allow our current boarders their home back.

We are mindful that Erskine House closed its doors to boarders during Covid so if any of our former girls’ boarders would like an informal tour, please let us know and we can arrange for those tours to take place at the same time.  Erskine House is now not only home to us in the Development Office, but also our Marketing, HR, Logistics and Commercial Enterprise teams as well as our thriving Thrift Shop.

SMC attendees can book a boarding house tour along with their morning tickets at https://www.trybooking.com/uk/DCRR. MES attendees can book a boarding house tour through the MES FP Guild on mesfpguild@esms.org.uk.

Evening – Year Group Reunions

During the evening, Alumni from specific years will gather in smaller groups, providing a chance for meaningful catch-ups and reliving memories from their time at school.

In a world that often feels disconnected, these reunions will bring together alumni from different backgrounds to celebrate their shared school experience, reminisce about old times and reconnect with friends.
